Walk in with the vehicle and your ID, and drive out with a roadworthy certificate in 30 to 40 minutes. No booking. If anything fails, the retest is free within 14 days.
A roadworthy certificate confirms a vehicle is safe and legal for South African roads. You need one when a vehicle changes ownership, is re-registered, or has to clear a defect notice.
Our examiners inspect the vehicle's safety systems and issue the certificate once it passes. If something needs attention, we tell you exactly what it is, in plain terms, so it can be put right.
A test takes 30 to 40 minutes. National Minimum Test Times set a floor of 26 minutes on the vehicle itself, so a roadworthy cannot legitimately be rushed through in ten. Data capturing and the queue account for the rest.
Buying a car? The roadworthy is one step of the change of ownership, and we handle the other steps here too.
The retest is included: bring the vehicle back within 14 calendar days and we recheck the failed items at no charge. We test trailers and caravans up to 3500 kg GVM, not only light trailers of 750 kg and less. Prices can change, so call 011 907 5288 to confirm before your visit. Full price list on the fees page.
The test covers the systems that keep a vehicle safe on the road. It is worth a quick look at the obvious items before you come in: a blown bulb, a cracked windscreen or a worn tyre is a common reason for a fail, and an easy one to avoid.
If the vehicle does fail, you leave with a written list of what needs attention. Get it repaired, come back inside 14 days, and the retest costs nothing.
When a vehicle changes ownership, when it is re-registered, or when it has to clear a defect notice. For a private vehicle the certificate is valid for 60 days from the date of issue, so the registration has to be completed inside that window.
National Minimum Test Times set a floor of 26 minutes on the vehicle itself, and data capturing accounts for the balance. A roadworthy cannot legitimately be done in ten minutes.
You get a report setting out exactly what needs attention. Once it is repaired, bring the vehicle back within 14 calendar days and the retest is free. We check the items that failed, at no further cost.
No. We do not take bookings. Walk in Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 17:30, but arrive by 17:00, because that is when the last test of the day is taken. More answers on the FAQ page.
